Insurance/Coverage

Q: Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
A: Most insurance plans do not require a referral.  However, if you think your insurance company may require a referral, you can reach their customer service line by calling the number listed on your insurance card.  You may also complete the form on the right and our office will obtain your benefit information for chiropractic services.          BACK TO TOP

Q: What is a participating provider?
A:  A participating provider has a contract with your insurance company to accept the rates the insurance company sets for chiropractic services.  When you go to a participating provider you will receive the highest level of benefits and the lowest out-of-pocket expenses at your visit.  This will reduce your out-of-pocket expenses even if you have a plan that has a high deductible.             BACK TO TOP

Q: What is a deductible?
A:  A deductible is a (yearly) amount that you will have to pay out of pocket before your insurance will begin paying.  You will make payments for services your receive which will be applied toward your deductible until that is met for the plan year.  For example: If you have a $300 deductible and your treatment for the day is $50.  Then the $50 is applied toward your deductible and that is what you will owe the provider (doctors office).

It is important to have your visits applied to your deductible in case you need care from another provider within that year.   The costs of your visits are based on the fee schedule that the insurance company sets.  The fee schedule is an agreed amount between the provider and the insurance company.  See also Co-Insurance belowBACK TO TOP

Q:  What is a Co-pay?
A:  A co-payment is the patients portion that is due at the time of service.  Your insurance will then pay their portion of your visit.  The costs of your visits are based on the fee schedule that the insurance company sets.  For example: if visit was $50, your co-pay was $20, and your insurance will pay the provider the other $35.     BACK TO TOP

Q:  What is Co-Insurance?
A: A co-insurance is a percentage of services that you pay out of pocket.  Co-insurance is typical once a deductible has been met.  The insurance company may require you to pay a portion of the services and they will in turn pay a portion as well.   For Example:  Your deductible has been met (satisfied) for the plan year and your insurance requires you to pay 20% of services and the will in turn pay for 80% of services.  If the visit was $50.00, you would pay $10.00 and your insurance company would pay $40.00.            BACK TO TOP

Q:  Are there services that are not covered by my insurance?
A:  There are some medical plans that do not cover all services.  For example Medicare and Medicaid (Medical Assistance) plans will not cover Exams and Therapies.  These plans will only cover spinal manipulation (adjustments).  Please note that Exams are required to be performed on all new patients.  The care provided in our office is based on medical necessity and not that of your insurance coverage.  We work together with you to provide the best care for your condition.  Communication is always open, please feel free to discuss any concerns regarding your care and insurance coverage with our experienced staff.  Please note we do not have any control over your insurance coverage as it is a contract between you and your insurance company based on the plan you chose.

For your convenience we offer discounts for non-covered services if paid at the time of service.  To find out more about discounts that may apply to you please call 612-722-2147 or email us at citylakes@ymail.comBACK TO TOP

Q:  I do not have any insurance, do you have a discount plan for self pay?
A:  We offer a discount for payments made at the time of service for those services which are not covered by your insurance plan or if you do not have any insurance coverage.  Our discount applies to the absence of costs associated in billing, therefore we are able to pass the savings along to you.  To find out more about discounts that may apply to you please call 612-722-2147 or email us at citylakes@ymail.com BACK TO TOP

Chiropractic Care

Q:  What is chiropractic?
A:  The primary theory behind chiropractic therapy is to help the body heal itself by correcting subluxation of the joints, particularly the bones of the spine (vertebrae).  Chiropractic medicine originated in the late 1800s in the United States.  Chiropractic has many proven benefits and people of all ages seek regular chiropractic care for many different symptoms and conditions.  BACK TO TOP

Q:  What is a subluxation?
A:  In simplest terms, a vertebral (spinal) subluxation is when one or more of the bones of your spine (vertebrae) move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from between each of the bones in your spine. This pressure or irritation on the nerves then causes those nerves to malfunction and interfere with the signals traveling over those nerves.BACK TO TOP

Q:  How can a subluxation affect me?
A:  Your nervous system controls and coordinates all the functions of your body. If you interfere with the signals traveling over nerves, parts of your body will not get the proper nerve messages and will not be able to function at 100% of their innate abilities. In other words, some part of your body will not be working properly.BACK TO TOP

Q:  How can I tell if I have a subluxation?
A:  It is the responsibility of the Doctor of Chiropractic to locate subluxation's, and reduce or correct them. This is done through a series of chiropractic adjustments specifically designed to correct the vertebral subluxation's in your spine. BACK TO TOP

Q:  How many visits will I need?
A:  It is impossible to determine the amount of visits needed without first having an initial exam and determining how you are responding to the current treatment.  We believe in working with you to provide you the best care possible to get you feeling and functioning better in the least amount of time/visits.  Although we have heard of other clinics using a large visit number treatment plans, that is not our philosophy.  We treat each patient as an individual and base our treatment on your condition specifically.  We encourage you to meet with one of our doctors to map out the best plan for you.BACK TO TOP

Q:  Who should see a chiropractor?
A:  Chiropractic is used by many different people of different ages for many different reasons.  We offer a wide range of treatments to assist with a wide variety of ailments.  Please give us a call or email our office to see how chiropractic care may benefit you.

Q:  Can Chiropractors refer patients to other specialists?
A:  Chiropractors are part of a network of health-care professionals.  Like other doctors, they will make referrals for patients when necessary.  Chiropractors are trained to recognize risk factors and signs of disease that are outside their scope of treatments and will not hesitate to make a referral when it's in a patient's best interest.  There are also times when additional imaging is needed and a referral can be made if necessary.     BACK TO TOP

Acupuncture

Q: Does acupuncture hurt?
A:  Acupuncture is done with extremely thin, flexible needles made of silver alloy or stainless steel. You may experience brief discomfort as the needle pierces the skin, sometimes followed by minor soreness or a drawing sensation. As the energy changes, there may be numbness, heat, dull aching or tingling. More often than not, the experience is relatively painless.BACK TO TOP

Q:  What is acupuncture?
A:  Acupuncture is a therapy developed more than 2000 years ago in Asia that consists of stimulating designated points on the skin by the insertion of needles in order to restore and balance the body's energy or "Qi" (pronounced "chi"). BACK TO TOP

Q:  Is acupuncture safe?
A: Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years in China. It is still the treatment of choice for a quarter of the world's population despite years of comparison to western medicine. Side effects are rare and minor.BACK TO TOP

Q:  How long does an acupuncture treatment last?
A: The average treatment lasts about 20-30 minutes, but can go up to as long as 45 minutes, depending upon the problem being treated. We encourage patients not to schedule so tightly that they are stressed out about the time during their appointment.

Some conditions are improved with one visit; other treatments will involve multiple visits. On average, with weekly treatment a condition should show some improvement within 8-12 visits. If you do not see any improvement during that time, it may be appropriate to re-evaluate with the doctor whether or not to continue in treatment.BACK TO TOP
